I recently tried to export an Excel list to SharePoint but ran into a couple of major issues. The data-types for the columns continually forced multi-lines of text instead of single lines of text and I could not get the linked-to column to be the one I wanted. There are a couple of tricks to make this happen properly.

At Acumen we use a SharePoint Content Query Rollup as a simple trouble ticket system. We have client subsites each with their own trouble ticket list. When items are put on that list they rollup to the main page where our IT staff members can look at them. One big problem with the rollup is an inability to easily sort by various fields. Each technician wanted to see only their items.
