While troubleshooting a switch for a client I wanted to change the configuration register of the switch to boot from a different location. The "show version" command shows that the configuration register is located at 0x10F which is strange considering it is different than any other switch I've seen. After much googling I found that the 3550 has a different way of changing things.

After researching, this seems to be a more common problem than I had first thought. After a lot of reading, and a lot of experimentation, I've finally gotten voicemail functional again. When it is not operating, the VM light will be off on the front of the UC5xx unit and when you dial voicemail, you will not reach anything. The order of these steps are very important.

I recently bought a new router (Linksys e3000) that has support for usb hard drives. After setting up the drive and sharing it out on the network I was interested in the read/write speed across the network.

A user of a Cisco IP phone has both a PIN and a password. In Cisco Telephony terminology, the password is for accessing CUE (Cisco Unity Express-- a web-based configuration program generated on the UC500 device), and the PIN is needed for voicemail access.

I was at a client with a Cisco UC560 who requested that callers could ring back the operator after being forwarded to an extension and hitting an employee’s voicemail. Typically this action would be done by pressing 0, however, this did not work.

We had a Cisco access point that wouldn’t boot all the way up. It would never have gotten fixed had I not learned Cisco command line. These young whippersnappers (the editor points out that Tony is, in fact, a young whippersnapper) think they don’t need to learn that level of communication with a device but if it won’t boot then there are no other options. Even Google is limited when it comes to searching Cisco IOS commands.
